Do you think the manatory goverment isp internet filter is a good idea?

What is your feelings over the planned internet censorship? Do you think it will work? You you think it will affect you and how?
it will not work just a waste of tax money if ppl do something illagl they will find a way around a filter
True.... just ask the Chinese. ;o)
Listening to the U.S. National Public Radio on 1026AM the other day there was a long dicussion about this. If implemented, Australia will join a number of other countries with internet censorship. They include: China, North Korea, Iran, UAE, Cuba, and a number of extreme Islamist/Sharia countries. I wonder if this is really the way to go. There are a number of sites promoting illegal and highly distasteful subjects and there are laws already in place to deal with them on an individual basis. Do we really need more laws that will make us the laughing stock of the western world?
The police in WA now have laws that can stop and search anyone without a reason. Placing a filter over the internet is another erosion of our rights to information.
Holy crap batman. Theyll be tellin us to wear our undies under our pants soon. I work for a telco that sells..... INTERNET lines of one sort or another. I also used to deal with complaints in that we (Telco) had polluted their perfect little johnnys mind with picture of naked people performing all sorts of perverted acts against the laws of god. We dont sell this stuff to people under 18 as they are MINORS and hence incapable of making a contract in the eyes of the law as they havent matured enough to deal with the ramifications whether it be the cost or if its good for them or not. Thats why thier PARENTs have to sign up for it. And then pass the internet accessing device on to little sweet and perfect johnny ( who'd never knowingly look at something "like that") has decreed that it is no longer the responsibility of parents who have signed up with telecommunication providers to provide their sweet little offspring with "educational content" to ensure that their sweet little johnny doesnt go and download a bucket load of inappropriate content while doing his homework, it is up to him (KRUDD) and us. What a F$%^&*& larf. Whatever happened to "parental responsibility" . In the eyes of the law as it stands, it is illegal to provide a minor with the means to obtain sexually explicit material or whatever. The onus is on the parent / guardian who signs the contract for the internet supply and then gives it to little johnny on a laptop or mobile phone to go and play with without any supervision. To me , I see it as an adult giving a minor access to porn. And in the eyes of the law , this IS illegal. Remember. the telco sold the access to an adult, the adult gave the access to a minor. Simple. And you wouldnt belive how many stupid people can't see that watching their kids on the internet is as important as watching them at the park when they play or if they go into a public toilet or whatever. Ive spent hours arguing this very point with them when they complain about what they found on little johnnys hard disk and try to sue us for it. What we really need ( rather than an internet filter slowing down every business transaction, communication and removing the chance for australia to compete successfully in business on the world stage) is a department of parental responsibility. In my experience, the parents dont do what theyre supposed to, so and the Telcos shouldnt t be held responsible. The parents need to be ( or whoever provided the device to little johnny) Instead of using us (telco provider) as the scapegoat, he should get to the heart of the problem and create the dept. of Parental Indifference. This way, the idiot who provided the minor with the unfettered access to the internet can be reported and dealt with in the eyes of the law appropriately. And as far as the revolting trade in kiddy porn ( which this argument has nothing to do with) theres already a very effective solution that regularly returns results with out screwing people and business over with a filter. But wont do this ( the schoolteachers that make up the vast majority of his staff get that it wont get them voted back in) so he fucks us all over with censorship ( he should have been a schoolteacher too). I always thought the labor gov was about making life easier for the average joe and that parents have the requirement to take responsibility for what their kids are exposed to ( ie. put the internet access somewhere that the all knowing mum and dad can see what little johnny is accessing or bar their mobiles from internet access). Im pretty sure that all business would have the same view. And these are the key to the prosperity that has provided daddy with the $$$ that gave little johnny the internet accessing device in the first place. . I vote for mum and Dad doing their job rather than expecting a nanny state to take care of their responsibility . Or are we going to turn into america and have to label oranges and vegimite jars with the advice that "inserting this object anally is possibly going to require medical attention" AArgh Dear Mr Please find a useful cause for the wowsers to turn their attention to. I would recommend the after dark violence on our streets as a good start ( but that may be hard. it still gets back to the values that parents instill in their kids and wont make you the bloke with the easy and voteable solution). But Im pretty sure that wont fit in with 'being seen as a leader on the world stage" and hence may be aginst your "core valiues" Maybe Julia mite get it rite. Its not that bad she runs the place while you go cavorting round the world dealing with the world issues whilst the country you provide a figurehead to needs some real ( non easy vote getting )direction. Same to you mr abbot. But you look nice in bike shorts .
Not wanting to get into it to deep, but if the peole give this much control to the government, the people have then given away another liberty of free speech and another freedom, the government will expand this to whatever they see fit to control and the people have already set the precident of letting them tell us what they will allow us to see. When the issue is how responsible people are in there own homes to keep the kids protected from adult material and issues. We need society to stop with the attitude of giving parenting to authorities and turn it back to allow parents to parent. Also it is controversial I believe that some parents need to stop trying to be a friend to their kids and start to parent and make the decisions for/with their kids best interest, this is hard at times and is controversial. No matter how often we tell kids they can make adult decisions, the human brain does not develop fully until 24 yrs of age, so until they are in their early twenties parents need to guide and help their kids with decision making. Every decade I age I find my thinking changes as the elders of my youth said it would, and I enjoy the process. Hope havent offended anyone but that wasnt my point. Happy to chat more on subject. Mr Tribi
