The Wyaralong Dam, reached 100% capacity at 9:30am this morning and has begun spilling over which which has been adding to the Logan River since. The Logan River which was already swollen now has extra catchment runoff which... was until this morning been held back by the new dam. MEDIA UPDATE 11 January 2011: Issued at Controlled releases from Wivenhoe Dam decreasing NOTE: All SEQ dams remain safe, stable and operating within their design specifications. At 10pm Wivenhoe Dam was at 190 per cent with water levels falling slowly. Controlled releases through Wivenhoe's five radial gates of 645,000 megalitres per day are expected to reduce slightly overnight due to easing rainfall. Releases are being made in consultation with the Bureau of Meteorology and local councils and every effort to limit downstream impacts where possible is being made. Note that these large releases are necessary for the continued safe management of the dam. Somerset Dam is at 183 per cent and releases into Wivenhoe are expected to recommence overnight however high upstream levels are expected to continue to affect Kilcoy. Due to a combination of Lockyer Creek, local runoff and Wivenhoe releases, Twin Bridges, Savages Crossing, Burtons Bridge, Kholo Bridge Colleges Crossing, Fernvale Bridge, and Mt Crosby Weir Bridge may be inundated until at least Sunday 16 January. Residents are urged to contact local councils for detailed information on road crossing closures and other impacts. All recreations areas around Somerset and Wivenhoe are closed. Five gates are open at North Pine Dam and will continue until at least Wednesday 12 January. The local Council is being kept informed regarding Youngs Crossing. Gate releases at Leslie Harrison Dam are underway due to rainfall and inflows. Water has spilled from Wyaralong Dam after it exceeded 100 per cent capacity this morning. A minor release of around 8,000 megalitres a day is being made through the emergency gates at Hinze Dam. There is no public access to the spillway. For detailed information on river levels, road and crossing closures and other potential impacts, always contact your local council.

Residents are advised to stay tuned to their radios and televisions as rivers continue to rise. Emergency services are continuing to assist local communities but residents are being asked to do their part by ensuring they have their emergency kits ready to use and making sure they keep themselves safe. Residents around central, southern and western Queensland and possibly areas within Brisbane need to be prepared to be isolated in some areas for a number of days and should have supplies of non perishable food and water to sustain themselves and should also have their emergency kit at the ready. Ipswich Under Revised higher Flood Threat - plus List of Affected Ipswich Streets #QldFloods #TheBigWet by Queensland Police Service on Wednesday, 12 January 2011 at 08:19 Further overnight rainfall has prompted emergency services to revise flood warnings for Ipswich residents. Mayor Paul Pisasale has issued a warning to residents in low lying areas and adjacent to the Bremer River to monitor radio and television reports tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow morning. 'I'm told by the experts we are likely to see levels similar to the dreadful 1974 floods. 'At this stage the Bremer River in Ipswich is expected to reach 17.2 metres at between 11pm tonight and 1am tomorrow (Wednesday) which is nearly 2 metres below the 1974 level. 'River heights are expected to remain high for the next one to two days. 'Residents in flood prone areas should make immediate plans to self evacuate, and where possible stay with relatives and friends. 'Evacuation centres are being identified now and we will advise when and where as soon as we can. 'A suburb by suburb street listing will be available on the internet later today and for the media. [This list is below] 'I would ask for patience if residents are trying to contact our call centre. Additional staff are being rostered on and we are currently experiencing significant delays in answering calls. 'Again I ask all residents to keep listening to radio and TV broadcasts and to keep fully informed of flood levels,' Cr Pisasale said. AM Media Conference - main updates #QldFloods #TheBigWet by Queensland Police Service on Wednesday, 12 January 2011 at 10:06 KEY POINTS: DO NOT TRAVEL IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIND A FRIEND IN A HIGH PLACE IF YOU NEED TO EVACUATE (or go to the evacuation centres) Despite blue skies this morning in Brisbane, the extra water is already in the river system. Don't be fooled, the floodwaters ARE coming to Brisbane -- Over 90 people are now missing. The death toll remains at 10 confirmed deaths. With the rain clearing, a major search and rescue operation will begin in the Lockyer Valley Dalby is flooding, with 125 people in the local evacuation centre Chinchilla faces a likely peak ABOVE that of ten days ago Condamine is being updated for the second time in ten days The river in Goodiwindi is half a metre from the levee banks Evacuations in Texas have started The river level at Rockhampton and Gympie is falling The river level at Maryborough is rising There is new flooding in Bundaberg Esk and Toogoolawah are both isolated by road IPSWICH: at today the river was at The expected peak has been revised to The 1974 peak was 4000 properties are expected to be affected in Ipswich. 1200 have been affected already. BRISBANE: The river level is at and rising. The level is expected to rise quickly after lunch today. expected this afternoon, and tomorrow morning. The 1974 level was NOTE: Both Brisbane and Ipswich are vastly different to 1974. There are more people, denser concentrations of housing and more high-rise apartments, so even if water levels are similar, far more people are likely to be affected by a similar water level to 1974 The Brisbane River has already broken its banks at Yeronga Corso, Jindalee and Toowong. It's expected 2100 streets, 19,700 residences and 3000 businesses will be entirely flooded. 184 people are currently at the evacuation centre at the RNA Showgrounds in Bowen Hills. QE II Stadium in Nathan has also been activated as an evacuation centre. Please go EARLY if you are in a street or suburb expected to be affected by floodwaters. If you can't stay with friends or family, make your way to one of the evacuation centres. The Port of Brisbane is closed except for emergency supplies escorted by police and/or Harbourmaster vessels. Power cuts mean traffic lights will be out in many places. While the police are planning for this, please take care.

All buses INBOUND to the Brisbane CBD have stopped. Trains are still running inbound but to a public holiday timetable. The Inner City Bypass is closed for traffic in both directions. All tolls on the Logan Motorway and Gateway Motorway are suspended until further notice. This is to encourage people to use those routes instead of travelling through the Brisbane CBD. There are power cuts to 70,000 people - 56,000 in Brisbane and Ipswich and 14,000 in the Lockyer Valley 10,000 more people are expected to lose power in the next hour. The Moggill ferry has broken one of its two guidelines. "The Island" party boat moored near the Brisbane CBD is curently operating its engines to keep it from breaking away. Emergency service workers are analysing both boats to see if they need to be destroyed to stop them becoming potential riverborne missiles. Parts of the Brisbane CBD have flooded. The Wesley Hospital in Auchenflower will NOT be evacuated The Queensland Health head office in Charlotte St, Brisbane City has been evacuated. Hiya Rose, You are a champ my friend. This is far better than the hyped up media coverage. I have been involved in enough floods in my life to be totally over the media crap. Is nice to have some concise information to assimilate. Again, thanks for the effort you have put into this.
Queensland Police Service A reminder for those evacuated to register on the National Registration and Inquiry System (NRIS) on 1800 727 077 to let family and friends know where you are. If you know of anyone???
